Peter Leithart put together a nice post on Executives and Work over at Leithart.com. The gist is that in the past two decades there has been a change in ownership of companies from individual to institutional investors. Executives are pressured to focus on maximizing returns for these outside investors, instead of pursuing their true calling. "They are responsible not just to maximize profits, but to manage people justly and do good for the people they are responsible for."
Its a great summary of one of the many reasons I am thankful Populi is primarily employee-owned.
